We are dedicated to meeting the unique needs of youth and young adults impacted by sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.
Youth Pride is an organization that was created in 1992 and provides services free of charge for teens and young adults (up to age 21) who are LGBTQ.
Services include: free counseling, group sessions, weekly community dinners, free bus passes for youth to get to the center, clothing exchanges, school supplies, and a safe space to hang out. They also train community leaders on how to make LGBTQ youth in their community feel safe.
My daughter has attended YPI events off and on for the past few years. I cannot say enough about this amazing place. For some of the children, it is the only space where they can go to be themselves. The clothing exchange they have may be the only place where a trans child can get an outfit they feel comfortable in. The free counselors take appointments 5 days a week, because the suicide rate among LGBTQ kids is estimated to be 3 times higher than straight cis youth.

Youth Pride Inc. (YPI) is an affirming space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning young people to build community, develop connections and be themselves. Youth come together from a wide range of backgrounds and join with one another over common issues and activities, sometimes as simple as playing video games or sharing a meal. All of our programs are free of charge and include individual counseling, weekly discussion groups, leadership trainings, social events and wellness activities. In the end, youth experiences at YPI can be transformative.
Recognizing that LBGTQQ youth exist outside of YPI, we also provide professional development and training for youth service providers, social service organizations and schools so they have the information and resources to treat all youth with respect and dignity.”

melissa745Wanted to post the link for the upcoming calendar at YPI. As the school year approaches, it’s so important that these LGBTQ children, teens, and young adults have a safe place to go after school and evenings.

My daughter has met so many great people there, but so many had no other place to go where they could truly be themselves. And the free counseling is always important for LGBTQ kids as they transition into a new school year.

melissa745Stories like this one are why places like YPI are so needed, even today. Adults online, threatening to castrate and beat up a young child because she is trans. It’s sick and deplorable, and without education and exposure, the public opinion won’t change.
